Man-Woman-Marriage (1921). Allen Holubar

Foreword.
What are these vague fleeting memories from a distant past that sometimes come to our minds? Are they dreams? If the reborn souls of men and women could see back into the depths of the centuries, they would find that in the history of mankind the saddest pages relate to the treatment of woman by man.
Yet, through all those centuries of oppression, woman has dreamed her ideals, her spirit has brought man to Tolerance and Faith... Faith in the great mother's heart... Faith in woman.

In the spring, when new life and new strength shivers through the All, the scents of the blossoms bring to the old memories of love long gone... and to the Youth dreams of love that is yet to come.

Victoria, like every girl her age, dreamed of love.

Nowadays no one marries for love. That is out of fashion, because one does not eat from that. (...)

I know how you suffer, my dear child. Every woman fights for love and happiness at first, until marriage kills all the strife in her; so it has been with me, so it will be with you.

Love laughs at locks, bolts, angry fathers and forced fiancés, and always finds a way.

Once we're married, you can do whatever you want – assuming, of course, that I'm okay with it.

I thought to myself; flowers are like women. We men must be sure that we pick them in their pristine beauty.

And so these young people built their castles in the air, as millions before them did and as millions more will do after them.

The most sacred hour of Woman, when from Infinity she brings a fragile soul into this world.

Love... Woman's greatest strength and her most sublime weakness.

And when the sacrifice of Love is made... scarcely it is then esteemed.

The ideals that I dreamed slumber in my child's eye. All that was not to come I see in my child's eye.

What does it mean to gain the whole world, if you lose your soul?

Dresses, jewels and dissimulation, the great weapons of her sex.

Life is often a circle, taking us back from the pursuit of happiness to the simple things of Love.
