Lightnin' (1925). John Ford

Lightnin' John Ford silent movie

But woman's curiosity...

– Miss Jones, you know that Mr. Jones loved his wife – loved her devotedly, don't you?
– How can she know that?

She may believe a man to be a contemptible liar – she may say she'll despise him always, always, always – but down in her heart, if he really loves her, she knows it. If she is his ideal – his hope, his all – if he would willingly lay down his life for her, she can't help knowing it – and no matter what she says about him, or thinks about him, the knowledge that he cares more for her than for all else in the universe...
